Launching of the First Global Network of Women of Film and Audiovisual Media at United Nations

The First Global Network of Women of Film and Audiovisual Media was presented on March 18 at the UN headquarters in New York. This action was organized by the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations, the UN Women National Committee of Spain and the UN National Committee of Women of Australia, and with the support of the Spain Film Commission and the collaboration of Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) and Chicken & Egg Pictures.

Under the auspices of UN Women at the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), a collaborative platform has been launched for all actors involved in film and audiovisual, with the aim of accelerating equality gender and financing with a gender perspective.

In this year's edition of CSW68, governments, civil society organizations, specialists and institutions from around the world met to agree on actions and investments around this year's priority theme, to end the imbalance and poverty of women and advance gender equality.

The main objective was to promote exchange and share best practices between media, audiovisual institutions and organizations to fight against inequalities.

  • Piluca Querol, representative of the Spain Film Commission and director of the Andalusia Film Commission.
  • Isabel Raventós, vice president of CIMA.
  • Moderator: Simone Clarke, President of UN Women Australia.

The event aimed to lay the foundations for an international network, bringing together governments, institutions, public and private organizations, and civil society. This collaborative effort seeks to exchange data, promote best practices and gather reports on global advances in gender equality in film and the audiovisual sector.

This act is based on the commitment made by 29 global organizations at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, in July 2021, where they committed to working collectively for women's leadership, equal representation, justice, education with a gender perspective. gender, the elimination of gender violence and to advocate for equality in international festivals. The Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA), the driving force behind this initiative, is now leading the organization of this parallel event of CSW68.

Aims:

  1. Explore measures to improve women's leadership and achieve equal representation in the Film and Audiovisual Media sector.
  2. Advocate for equal pay for equal work and increased financial support for audiovisual projects led by women
  3. Demand measures from institutions, governments and private companies to accelerate gender equality in the Film and Audiovisual Media industry.
